Body & Exterior / Rear clip pivot errors
Last post by Paul Proefrock - Jul 26, 2025, 12:16 PM
I chose to make a steel frame similar to the original, using the front RCR bobbin as the pivot. As I developed the body brackets, I kept running into issues till I figured out the pockets for the clamp plates ate not the same from side to side.

I understand the comments "they are not symmetrical" and "it's a 60 year old racecar" but somethings have to be right to make it work correctly.PXL_20250724_183633418.jpgPXL_20250724_183629010.jpg

Had to remodel the passenger side pocket to get them close enough to work. Moved up and back about 1/2" so the parrot beak would line up to the clamp plates.

RCR makes a great kit, but there are some issues that need to be addressed

File Uploads / Steering Column Flange Bearing...
Last post by Randy Folsom - Jul 14, 2025, 10:01 PM
The steering column flange bearing mount I received from RCR did not match the bearing. It was easier to design a new mount than to find a bearing that fit the RCR mount. I also added a hole above the bearing for a 1/4" All-Thread brace bar.

File Uploads / SBF AC Compressor Mount

This mount has two design options, sharp corners like the CVF, and rounded.
It raises the compressor about 1-1/4" higher than the RCR supplied bracket.

General Discussion / Forum Participation
Last post by Paul Proefrock - Jun 26, 2025, 02:58 PM
Looking for any ideas on how to increase the forum participation.  Wolfgang said, "Maybe scantily clad women?" but I don't think that's the answer

Everyone has expressed the problems of our texting system, yet that continues instead of moving over to this area.

Any suggestion? maybe a comment on the texts that you've posted your details here?

Steve, not sure I understand your question. I did not make any changes to the tunnel. I modified the tray to raise the column slightly higher, allowing for and maintaining foot clearance for the pedals.

A bonus: I found the column fits the RCR chassis with the new RCR rack perfectly. I did have to modify the end VW universal joint to fit the D-shaft of the rack. I modified the center bearing of the shaft so it would bolt to the tray. I will weld the quick release spline to the end when I have the dash installed and can determine the minimum position for the steering wheel.

It adjusts up and down / in and out about 1-1/2" each direction

Paul Proefrock / Steering column

The year+ that I waited for my kit, I scoured the GT40 forum for ideas. One that made the 'must do' list was an adjustable steering column. Tom's Trackracer build outlined using a VW Fox column. They come primarily from England, they were pretty popular there. Found one on eBay, delivered for $60 US so I jumped on it.

It's taken some cut/fit to use it but I I'm gonna like this

More details to follow

ps:that's part of the collapsible shaft hanging down, looks like it will line up with the rack without modification
