Interior & Dash / Gauge sizes
Last post by Paul Proefrock - May 03, 2025, 08:13 PM
Just a heads up for anyone considering a build or changing the gauges

The RCR dash is molded to use their Speedhut gauges. 2-1/6" small gauges and 3-3/8" Speedo and Tach.

When you drill out the small hole, the outer diameter of the gauge is larger than the land that is left on the fiberglass. If you're anal - it will take some work to provide a flat land for the gauge.

If you are using Smiths gauges, their Speedo and Tach are 100mm (3-15/16" almost 4") The Speedhut is 5/8" smaller. You will have to do major remodel work to fit the larger Smiths gauge in.

Clarification & Update,
At the bottom of each thread/page is a "Quick Reply" area. You can add in a quick note using this area however it doesn't have all the features of the forum. If you want the full monte', click on the Blue Reply button at the bottom of the thread, it will open the full editor.

I did make a modification so you can now upload pictures using the Quick Reply. click on the "ADD FILES" if you want to use this feature - It opens the full blown editor and you'll see the 'Click or drag files here to attach them'

Jim, I am digging into it also.

As I  understand it, the aluminum plate that RCR supplies is fastened to the headlamp. You then have to supply your own adjusting screws, springs and mounting plate. As I learn more, I'll post it

Steve
When you typed in the question, that white field you did it in is the editor window.

At the bottom of that window are the words "Click or drag files here to attache them." To insert a picture, click on that which will open the windows dialog box so you can browse to where you store your pictures, select the one you want to upload and click upload

It's simple - click the reply button and type in your comments. Just like any other forum.

Posting pictures? Click on the bar at the bottom of the text editor window will open Explorer on your phone or computer. Browse to the file you want to upload and click on it. If you need to shrink it, you can select how many pixels wide or tall the picture will be. For a full screen picture, 800 is a good number. Type that in and click on Insert.

Got a question or need help, reach out to me

Body & Exterior / Re: Rocker panel install
Last post by Paul Proefrock - Apr 25, 2025, 08:47 PM
2nd question that comes up is does the rocker go above or below the belly pan. There is a channel formed by the sponson and it seems the natural spot. I am told it is a builders preference. If you're in a hurry, it mounts much easier below the belly pan. RCR uses four screws thru the fiberglass into the aluminum pan.

But if you're after a little more, it can be installed above the pan. It is a much cleaner look. I mounted the rocker in place after trimming the inner edge so it lapped into the channel area about 1". I then used a 1/8" drill to mark 8 holes, equally spaced, drilling thru the aluminum and the fiberglass. Use a Cleco to hold it in places as the holes are drilled.

Once drilled, I used panel adhesive and fiberglass to mount #10-24 nuts on the inside of the rocker panel. I drilled and countersunk each of the holes in the aluminum for a #10-24 x 3/4" flat head screw. When assembled, it's a nice clean look.

Body & Exterior / Rocker panel install

If you purchased your car less the factory body trimming/install, it will come with the rocker panels taped in place, untrimmed. Don't assume they are on the correct side of the car! There is a LH and RH panel and it isn't clear which is which.

We've all watched the video showing the rockers must go on first. We also have learned the rockers have to go to the rear as much as possible, often to the point of trimming away some fiberglass.

These pictures will help identify front and rear so you can determine which piece goes where.

Front - note amount of angle

Rear -  note flatter angle

Looking down at the right front wheel well, rocker clearance for tire. Note how it's cut back to the tangent point on the sponson

General Discussion / New guy - Jim DellaNeve
Last post by Paul Proefrock - Apr 18, 2025, 11:32 AM
Met up with Jim via the phone, he is working on his RCR GT40. Little bit older build but his day job got in the way of working with it.

You'll see a forum name of "Rocco of the snow" - there has to be a story behind that.

Jim is a retired Aerospace guy, in Upland, CA.

Welcome to the group
